I don't recall having much of an issue getting MySQL up and running with lion. Will try to sit down and remember what I did this afternoon if nobody chimes in first.

Have you attempted to install and set up MySQL?

here is what I have done and reformatted the server and decided to start over - after I found simpler instructions.

i tried these instructions but, he has misleading info..which makes no sense..

I got half way.. step 3 says mk mysql and give it permissions
then he says to do again.. which I am lost at that point..
then if you do continue - he makes you redo what you did during the sql install..

seems way to simple..
but conflicts with the other guy..
what is the difference with .bash_profile vs .profile
once that is clarified with me, I will understand which to use..

then i will install myphpadmin and wordpress..

Lion Server - has a different requirement compared to lion client install.

What are you having trouble with specifically? Just the installation process or are you having configuration issues?

I am running Lion Server on a Mac Mini mid-2011 2.3 i5 (low end model). I purchased/upgrade Lion client to server. I am only using it as a Development/Testing/File server with external storage attached, so I did not need the i7 "Server" Model with additional hard drive space.

My preferred tool has always been the Lamp/Wamp/Mamp installations of PHP/MySQL. It is a relatively easy process with a step-by-step wizard that takes care of most common configurations for you. Sure you can go in and modify the config files further but generally there is no need.

That said, you're certainly not the first person to run into configuration issues with Lion Server. I strongly recommend giving MAMP a try though... the support forums for it have a helpful community who have run into Lion Config issues as well. Once you get it running... for the most part you're Golden (until Apple updates something and you have to address it... LOL).

Here's a couple links. Not sure what you're doing with your server, but unless you are setting up multiple virtual servers you shouldn't need the Pro version.:

Yeah, ever since Oracle acquired them, installing and using MySQL has been
a nightmare experience (at least for me anyway)!
