Though wi-fi worked on my iPhone?

Is it a Bell thing? A work-around to this?

Do they not password protect their internet in a lot of places now? Sometimes going so far as to give you a username or unique key?

Did you get an error message?

I had issues with my iPhone for a bit as it would give a server error. Turned out to be a setting. Try to turn auto login to off under mcd's or starbucks wifi network.

Did you see a "login" page when opening safari? You need to click through that page to connect properly to the wifi network.

Always seems like a pain in the ass when I get those stupid login pages. Usually I just want to check email or something, and having to jump through hoops to get connected just ain't worth it.

At Starbucks AND McDonald's, you just have to open a web browser to get the login page, where you (GASP! THE HORROR!) have to click a box that says "I agree" (not to look at child porn, basically) and click connect.

The login page does appear (I wish I took a screenshot) and doesn't allow me to "click" permission to use - just an "error" message.
I'll try turning off auto login next time.

lol I feel his pain, many many MANY times I've sat staring at Google+ waiting for my notifications to refresh... waiting, waiting, waiting, check Twitter, wait, wtf, I'm on Wifi!? Oh, riiiiight, safari, click, dinner is done, leaving.

Don't know what to tell you about that, but thanks for providing a picture at least.

Any chance you've programmed in your own DNS numbers (like OpenDNS or GoogleDNS for example)? That would product EXACTLY the kind of error you're seeing there.

I am not 100% sure but I think it is because you have Private Browsing turned on, these places like Cookies and tracking where you are going so it may not let you sign in with private browsing turned on. I would suggest you turn it off, log in then if you wish turn private browsing back on after you are logged in and you should be fine.

I've never programmed any DNS numbers,
I'll try turning off Private Browsing next time and see if that works.

iPhone logs in fine.
(it really is true, the coffee at a McD, is just as good, thankfully TO has a nice selection of Indy cafes...)

I'm pretty sure it's the private browsing thing. Only thing I can think of as my iPad/iPhone have always worked fine in both places.

Next time you are at McD's and you get that error message, try this:

- in the list of wifi networks under Settings/wifi, look for the blue arrow at the far right, corresponding with the network you are connected to (e.g., "Mc Donald's wifi"). Tap the blue button.

- select "Forget this network"

- go back to the wifi list and it will refresh, re-adding that wifi network to your list. Choose it and try logging in again.

Still having the same problem, tried everything: AIrplane Mode, Forget Network..

Did you try disabling the private browsing toggle in settings? The navigation/tab bar is black, so that would signify that private browsing is still turned on.

Go to settings general and reset...
Reset network preferences.

It may have a glitch somewhere you will never locate. Resetting your network pref most likely will fix it.

On Sunday, I tried to use my iPad at Tim Hortons and couldn't connect with the Bell connection. Their router showed up in the list and it was checked off once selected and the wifi icon showed up. The progress wheel just kept spinning when I brought up a Safari browser but with Chrome it eventually came up with a 'server not connected to internet' error.

I had no problem connecting with my iPhone.

Your equipment is trying to save you from overpriced burnt coffee (starbucks) and unhealthy food choices (McD's)
Apple is all about saving you from bad things, not just Windows.

i don't think it has anything to do with private browsing since this function only tells the browser not to save any data such as history and cookies..
