I have the original Apple TV with 160GB HD model that I haven't used since last summer in the motor home, but it now refuses to work.

I plug it into the TV with HDMI, power it up and it plays the welcome music and screens and then the menu screen appears. The menu appears to be 'stuck' on 'my movies'. I thought a bad battery in the remote so put in a new one, no change. It won't respond to the remote.

I can't figure out how to access it. My network does not 'see' it on WIFI, so tried plugging it in direct to my MBP via ethernet, but no joy there either as it does not see the device.

It is jailbroken with Firecore, if that matters.

Any suggestions on what to try to make it work again? I can't seem to see a way to reset it either and I am stumped. If I could just even get it back to the original software, I could begin over again so it plays Netflix which is why i used the Firecore stuff to begin with.

Any advice appreciated.

Don, have you followed these instructions from Apple Support to run diagnostics and then a factory restore?

Apple TV (1st generation): How to run diagnostics (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1560)

Obviously you'll have to re-do the jailbreak, but it should get you up and running again - though I don't know if that means the content will be wiped....

Nope, that's what I was looking for. Thanks mucho, CM. Will let you know how it works out. Content is not an issue, as I have that all backed up times two.

OK, that worked, but it took a full restore to factory to get it to work, and yep it wiped the HD. Now to re-sync the darn thing with iTunes as all I use it for is movies. Thanks again CM, am grateful.
