Does anyone have a good open source application I can use with a Microsoft Access file.
I have open office but it doesn't read the file.
I'm using snow leopard on an old Macbook

is it the access application or access data you want to open?
Filemaker might help if it's an application.
If you output your access data as a standard file such as CSV, you can open that easily in open office or Neo Office.

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to run Access applications without a conversion to a Mac app

My free app of the day alert just popped up with this, which may be of use:
App Shopper: MDB Tool - For Microsoft Access (Developer Tools) (http://appshopper.com/mac/developer-tools/mdb-tool-for-microsoft-access)
MDB Tool - For Microsoft Access
MDB Tool is the best resource for viewing Microsoft Access databases on a Mac. You can use it to export your data directly into SQL (for creating an SQLITE database) or directly to CSV and launch it into Excel.
+ Support for Unicode data.
+ Export options for both SQL & CSV.
+ Quick table view count.
Please note: Databases must be in the Access 2007 or below format.
