2 months ago I bought a used late 2007 Macbook 3,1 and the store put a brand new Apple battery in it. It has been working fantastic until today...

Last night I closed the lid to put it in sleep mode, I think it had 30% left on the battery or something. I don't think it was plugged in. Today I go to turn it on and it is completely dead. I plugged in the AC and it's saying "not charging" and "replace battery now".

I tried the SMC reset (unplug take out battery, hold power button till it beeps, tried the same thine with the battery in as well) that did nothing. The battery itself does not have any of the little LEDs lit up on it while plugged in, and the cord it always green not orange (when charging). I bought it at Mostly Digital in London, I hope they will give me a new battery since it only has like 30 cycles on it, but it's past their 30 day warranty so I might have to buy one.. :mad:

Is there anything else I can try and do before bringing it to the shop?

If its a brand new apple battery and you have an invoice for it you have a one year warranty, and if it's failed completely and only has 30 cycles you should be able to easily get a replacement f any Aasp or apple store

Hum.. just a hint. lithium-ion batteries does not like to be completely drained. I don't know if it is the same with lithium-polymer thought.

I wouldn't let it drain completely all the time like this. Especially when there's less than 40% left on the battery.. i would recharge it before going to sleep rather than let it drain to 0 over night.

Where in his post does it say he let it go to 0% either habitually or once? He let it go to sleep with 30% charge. There is no way a good working battery should go from 30% to 0 after one night of sleep...no way.

Agreed broad, and even if it did, that does not mean the battery should be completely dead and not want to charge or anything. Think I read that once it gets very low in sleep it is suppose to shut down on its own or something.

Anyways the nice folks at Mostly Digital replaced the battery free of charge (after I told the guy it only had 30 cycles on it, he went and checked again and replaced it asap.) They gave me a receipt for the work they did so now I "officially" have 1 year warranty for this battery.

On a side note I was at Walmart waiting for something so I checked out their laptops. Their HP and Toshibas with Intel i5 and SSD drives loaded everything so fast, I think SSD is an upgrade I need to do stat!
