Love the idea and will buy one if it becomes a real product. Lots of vapor and smoke on kickstarter.

You watch (no pun intended) and see the iPod Nano come with those features.

To be honest I'm surprised the iPod nano doesn't already have some of those features. I ordered my pebble a few weeks ago.

Oh if Apple made the iPod Nano a wireless extension to the iPhone and iPod Touch, oh man that would be something.

This project officially ended today with $10.2 million in backing (originally asking for $100,000 ) although they topped out over a week ago (capped it at 85000 watches).
This product was shopped around to several big name companies before the Kickstarter route, all passed. The founder is a Waterloo grad, maybe why they produced a BB version in the beginning.

I looked at this and at first was excited then the more I thought of using it, the less I liked it.

The battery life, means you have to recharge most every day. and the limited wireless range means you need a iPhone or Android plus the watch to do what you can already do with your phone which can't be far away anyway.
The cost of this plus phone is just a bad idea, if I have the phone, I just can't see using this thing, it's just one more screen in the way, one more device to charge and fiddle with and doesn't function independently of anything. Does it even work as a watch without a connection? I have a $20 watch that has worked constantly with the same battery for 5 years or more with needing one recharge and still going.

Some of you might have a use for it, but the examples they gave in their video seemed really lame to me.
If it was basically a iPod Nano like thing ... that d be different, and Apple could easily do that.

^^ All interesting and valid points, although I think the intent is a weekly recharge for the Pebble. I didn't back the project because I just don't need such a device (yet) and it's a little too rich for me, but I work with people who could definitely use this device. In my work environment, I can't always access my phone (or the environment is inhospitable to expensive electronic device), but I need my phone and need to have momentary access. A satellite device that lets me see messages, or lets me control functions of the phone without having to handle the phone itself- very useful. I'm interested in the possibilities, future apps, future functions of this or similar devices- portents.

Apple could have done this with the Nano, but did not, or have not. This is not an entirely new idea, the Pebble company previously produced a BB version. I think this product is a sign of things to come.
