: Anyone Using Toast Titanium 11.0.4? - Problems with Updates!
OldeBullDust Apr 23rd, 2012, 07:35 PM I use Toast Titanium 11.0.4 to encode .eyetv files & burn to DVD, works fine most of the time. I also use it to convert the .eyetv files & put in iTunes.
Trying to stay current, so I downloaded the update (11.0.6), file downloads & i get dialog, click to install & reboot.
“Error, try again later”
This has happened several times.
Try going to web-site, Roxio (now part of Corel Corp), - latest update shows as 11.0.4.
I have a later build of that version already installed.
Is anyone else having this problem? Do you have a work-around/solution?
Newf709 Apr 23rd, 2012, 10:45 PM I just did the update and no problems here.

It seems that you're not alone with the latest "upgrades" according to the comments at Download Toast Titanium for Mac - The ultimate media toolkit; disc burning, video conversion and more. MacUpdate.com (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/6351/toast-titanium)
OldeBullDust Apr 24th, 2012, 03:06 PM Thanks for your input
I've looked at a few site, many complaints, no real solutions from Roxio.
I wonder if this failure to fix the problem has anything to do with the take-over by Corel. I noticed that most of the focus is now on Windows related products.
Letting Toast wither on the vine maybe?
Would be a real pity, Toast was (IMHO) a solid package years ago.
Mike457 Apr 24th, 2012, 04:11 PM I did the upgrade from within the software without any problems. That said, I've found Toast 11 to be noticeably slower than earlier versions, and it does not convert eyetv files to DVD for me. I hadn't realized they'd been taken over: Corel has pretty much always been bad news.
pm-r Apr 24th, 2012, 04:56 PM I used my old Toast 6 Titanium 6.1.1 w/Snow Leopard last week to make a DVD copy and it still works. Heck it doesn't even know what any DRM stuff is about and just ignores it but that wasn't even an issue I needed to bypass.

But a Toast etc. take-over/acquisition in Feb. 2012 and the latest 22 Mar 2012 update fiasco doesn't look good.
Maybe a harbinger of things to come as many of the acquisitions they've done over the years with some previously good applications and their demise for many Mac users:

Yes, I find it is slow to start-up and slow to act when I click on a button/function, and I’m running it on a 27” iMac i7.
However, I do use it to burn my .eyetv files to DVDs
If it helps, this is how I proceed
I crop the video in eyetv, when finished, just close the window (it should have saved the file automatically)
Open Titanium (11.0.4) select “Video” - NOT “Convert” in the menu (In the Toast window)
Then select “DVD-Video”
Click on “Finish” (Strange wording )
When the window with the downward arrow appears, drag the .eyetv file onto the window.
Do your set-ups ie Name you disk, click on options & select a Menu style
then click on “customize” button - Check or re-enter disk name, Menu title and Encoding
( I usually select “Best” - Aspect ratio & Audio I leave as default) - click OK)
Insert blank disc, make sure your burner is selected in the “Destination “ click on burn
Toast then proceeds to encode the video, then burn to DVD
Hope this helps
BTW: I’ve read that 11.0.5 and 11.0.6 are buggy and crash a lot, I don’t think I’ll upgrade just yet.

Right! I'm not a fan of Corel, I still have bad memories of Corel Draw and trying to use the files in a print job - not nice.
Wordperfect was OK - until they took it over, then it just seemed to fade (IMHO)
Too many good companies/products get taken-over, then rely on their previous good rep while being run into the ground.

I had spent 5 years using Corel Draw for flyers and catalogues on a (Ugh!) PC. Company wanted to save money buying PC's and not using Quark and Adobe products. Little did my company realized the printer would have to redo ALL projects done on the PC's on Macs (using Quark and Adobe Photoshop) at 3X the cost. Company went bankrupt eventually in the 90's.
Gerbill Aug 17th, 2012, 11:08 PM In my experience, Corel is where good Mac software goes to die. They are an organization of Windows pukes who have absolutely no love or understanding for Macs. In the short run we may be OK, but I would start looking for alternatives to Toast and CD Spin Doctor.
Addendum: Apparently there was an update in the pipeline when the aquisition went down - the new version is 11.1 - apparently it's a major update, and Mountain Lion compatible, even. I haven't done a project with it yet, but it looks promising. I had trouble with the update - needed to delete some files in Library to make it work.
Macfury May 2nd, 2013, 08:35 AM I've stuck with Toast 9.0 after the bad press all of the subsequent versions received. Does anyone who upgraded have an opinion on Toast 11.1?
The one shortfall of 9.0 is that it takes forever to burn MKV files to disk, and the results are often unacceptable, so that's my main concern.
SINC May 2nd, 2013, 08:40 AM Sorry, I stuck with Toast 10 and it works flawlessly. Could not see the need to upgrade to 11 to add Blue Ray as I don't have a burner anyway.

I was actually thinking I might upgrade to 10! Mostly MKV functionality I'm looking for--not Blu Ray.
pm-r May 2nd, 2013, 02:02 PM You're sure way ahead of me, and I still have and use Toast 6.x!! It still works for me for the little I use it.
But I have also been using "Burn" since last year and it has worked well for me. It's also free. ;)
I'm not sure about it's MKV functionality.

chas_m May 3rd, 2013, 05:20 AM I upgraded to 11 because I finally found a way to do it cheaply (it was included in a bundle). As far as my use is concerned, its no better than Toast 10 (one area is in fact more confusing, but I got it sorted out and it works just fine). So if you're able to work with Toast 10 okay, I'd say just stay where you are until you have to upgrade for OS reasons or some such.
To answer the original question, the current version is 11.1 and it works fine for me.
Macfury May 3rd, 2013, 10:00 AM Thanks, chas-m.
pm-r May 3rd, 2013, 02:12 PM Opps, it doesn't look good for Toast 11 and MKV functionality.

Maybe do a search at macupdate.com for something that works well.

Yep. It stutters and stumbles on anything over an hour, then quits.
I was trying a free program called DVDStyler which seems to handle MKV OK--however, it seems to have no ability to select between two DVD drives!
chas_m May 3rd, 2013, 03:51 PM VisualHub can handle that conversion for those who still have it, but since you can't get it anymore, my next recommendation is the $12 iFFmpeg, an excellent all-around converter.
http://www.iffmpeg.com/
Macfury May 4th, 2013, 12:14 AM I may actually grab iffmpeg. If it makes hard-coded subtitles easy, I will pay $12. Toast will often preview as though subtitles are going to work, then they won't appear on the DVD.
