: iCloud contacts not updating

Hoping someone out there can explain why my Address Book on iCloud is not updating. Calendar is updating fine, mail is moving correctly, but the Address book does not update, even after a manual sync. I'm stumped.

JB, read through this link (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3380290) and see if some of the ideas are helpful.

I have found various parts of iCloud to be very, very unreliable since switching from mobile me. Either the contacts aren't working, the calendar isn't working, the bookmarks aren't working or the email isn't pushing properly. It's very, very are that all are working as designed 100% of the time. generally it happens on either my phone or my iPad, although I had some bookmark trouble a few months ago where the broken link seems to be one of my laptops (ie changes made on ios devices were reflected on other iOS devices but not on the laptop and vice versa)

I usually just turn off the affected data category them turn it back on, which unusually fixes it for a few days at which point it, or something else, breaks again.

You get what you pay for I guess?

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. I did the "export V-card/delete all entries/drop on All iCloud" routine and it seems to be working. Thanks again.

In a cab right now on a way to a meeting..went to get the address from the calendar appt I set up a few days ago and hark!! It's not in my phone!

Good thing I have my iPad with me which *is* still syncing and is up to date.

iCloud rocks!**

**sarcasm so thick it could be cut with a knife.

Sorry broad is having trouble. No problems here, just tested it again while reading this. Change contact on iPhone, iPad and MBP instantly updated.

So your position is that because it isn't raining in Victoria whe you live it can't possibly be raining in Toronto, where I live?

I think the issue is how each person has there settings set for email accounts and iCloud. Mine sync just fine and does it automatically. But the one thing I don't have set is for each of my email accounts I have syncing for Contacts, Calendars and everything except Mail turned off. My contacts and calendars sync without issue this way. I even had to turn off notes which was syncing via a gmail email account.

not really, no. if all iCloud services are set to "on" then all should sync properly across every device a given user is signed in on, regardless of what else is going on on the device. different caldav/carddav accounts (be they yahoo, gmail whatever) shouldn't affect iCloud.

things like how long mail is kept in the trash for, junk mail etc are tweak-able according to your preferences, but the basic things (calendar, contact) should be identical

again if i was the only person out of the millions of iCloud users with these issues i would chalk it up to bad luck/ignorance/incompetence or something, but the fact that scads of people have these issues mean something isn't right. the fact that sync problems come and go across multiple devices with *no* changes having been made to the devices settings also tell me the error is something server-side, not settings etc

bear in mind too that apple no doubt has a wackload of different iCloud servers, and the server that your account might be on might be quite different to that of mine etc etc etc...

MobileMe was around for 4 years, iCloud has been around for 6 months. not saying that these numbers directly correlate to exact users with issues, but do you see a trend developing at all?

Well that is true.

was just giving my account of how I have things setup it might solve the problem for some. And you don't know if there isn't a correlation between the syncing of email settings and those of iCloud settings. You could try and turn off the contact and calendar syncing options in the email settings and see what happens. I am not discounting you don't have issues and therefore others have the same issues. iCloud is not perfect that is for sure, I hated the duplication of calendar events when it first came online.

just wanted to point out the massive issue with iCloud email yesterday...according to the iCloud support site ~12% of users *worldwide* affected for a good few hours. i wasn't personally, but talked to 4 people who were, and were affected WELL outside the posted time frame apple acknowledges was a problem.

i also had no push email on either my phone or iPad last night. nothing like stabbing at the "update" button on my iPad all night to make me regret leaving my laptop at work. #@$!(

i have never, ever been able to get iCloud to work properly. that AND getting Siri to recognise my Mum in my contact list.
when i went to the Genius Lab, all they could do is shrug their shoulder and say it's "...still in beta."

i am currently deleting and re-adding my stupid iCloud account to my stupid phone and stupid iPad in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, it might work the way its supposed to for...oh...i don't know..one week.

and now even after deleting and re-adding the frigging mail still doesn't push to the iPad.

i would pay almost anything to have MobileMe back.

oh and before the NIMBY people start talking about how awesome iCloud is, and how iCloud is powered by cute little sprites, magic pixie dust and unicorn droppings, here is a 40 page thread from the Apple support forum of people saying the same thing:

Thank God I don't have need for any iCloud stuff that I could actually find useful and really don't need, and have it actually work!!

I have helped several users get their iCloud back up and working properly and maybe just with a single iDevice in addition to their Mac for at least a few days, and then the proverbial phone call from the user saying - it 's not working again!!!

I'm glad it works well for some, but something's sure goofy for many to reply on it!!!
