: Things That Make You Want To Cry

Today I received this email from a woman regarding the Live Chat feature on my website:

Don,

I can’t figure out how to use chat line....

I was just wondering if candidates are still going door to door to find out what voters really are concerned about or leaving *flyers in one’s mailbox. I have not seen a single candidate in my street nor gotten annoyed at my mailbox getting filled with election flyers. *They must all be pretty sure of themselves. lakelady

After taking a screen shot of the feature and putting in a couple of bright red arrows so she could follow it, I replied with this email:

I posted this for you as "Lakelady" and set up an account for you.

Just type 'Lakelady' into the space with the top arrow, then click 'Profile' (the bottom arrow) and a window will open and ask you for a password. Enter 123456 and then you can post whenever you want.

Leave the 'e-mail / url' space alone and your nickname will appear in black with no link to your ID.

Your name should stay there whenever you visit the site, but if not, just repeat the process above.

Good luck,

Don

I got the following email from her in reply:

Don,

I must have a different screen picture. I can’t find a top or bottom arrow.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

There's an extension for that. It will strip out the ads from all the web pages in Safari. Adblock, I believe.

Some time back I made mention of Glimmer Blocker on this forum and received a Digital wrist slap from the mayor.
Appeared that suggesting ad blocking is a no-no.

Well, let's put it this way: do we like it here and want to see EhMac continue?

1. Yes
2. No

If you voted "Yes" you should at least turn off ad-blocking for this site. Otherwise it WILL go away at some point. Love don't pay the bills, my friend!

That's just nonsense. Seeing an ad is no guarantee you're going to even consider buying the product. In fact, if the ad is annoying enough, it may pretty much guarantee you won't buy it. This site, ehMac.ca, is designed for Apple users. Everything Apple does is built to undermine the ubiquitous use of intrusive advertising, from Reader in Safari on both OSX and iOS to bypassing Google's Search as much as possible through the use of apps. We should not be forced to endure ads just to search for information. Except for Apple ads of course. ;)

That's my WAAAAAA for today. :baby:

There is a reason memberships include fewer ads. If you want ehmac to continue, buy memberships, donate directly to the mayor, to hell with the ads...

Since I visit several sites other than ehMac, and Camino does not provide an option to view ads at only selected sites, I will indeed just leave the built-in adblocker going all the time, rather than bouncing back and forth via preferences.
