At least replacement still seem to be available — at a rather expensive price.
that's funny, I hadn't heard that one in years. My mom had one stuck to the fridge for a while.

I used to have two round-tuits in our kitchen, a thin heavyboard one my sister made and gave to me and another commercial one made of very thin foam, but it just eventually fell apart and disintegrated probably because it got tired of waiting for me.

I think ours was just a homemade paper one. It didn't seem to help much either

I talked to a fellow train passenger about this. Record in 24 bit and 96khz if possible to retain audio quality, otherwise you might as well buy from the iTunes store. iPhones and iPods support 24 bit audio, but not 96khz although you can downsample to 48khz. 24 bit will still sound remarkably better than 16 bit.

I'm still hurting to this day over the fact that DVD Audio never took off, but apparently Blu-Ray Audio may have a go at it.

Are you backed up??? If so, why? Psyllium Fibre is not free but will do wonders!

yep. 24bit sounds better. But the average joe may not care. That's why I suggested renting a decent usb interface that supports it.

only downside is bigger files.

Thanks for everyone's input so far!

As the sale was about to end I ran out and bought one and will try it out this week or weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

You can't beat that price, most user comments were favourable and at least it comes or has Mac compatible software which is more than the much more expensive Sony model does.

Well, so far so good! Sure it's cheap and the stylus is lighter than it should be but right now I'm blaring 'Satch Plays Fats' through the house and it sounds superb.

The only hiccup so far has been the PHONO in on my receiver. When I plugged into it the sound was awful. Distorted overpowering bass and little else. When I switched to AUX, no problem at all. Bad input I expect.

I'll let you know how it goes when I start xferring.

hmm, wonder if that usb unit has it's own preamp, which wouldn't be surprising given most newer receivers generally don't have phono inputs anymore.
