Macbook Air upgrade questions

Hello

I got a mac air as a gift before school started this year.
its 11" // core 2 duo - 1.4 // 2gb ram // running Lion 10.7.2 // 64gb hdd

I want to know if anyone knows of an inexpensive way to upgrade the hdd to 128. Where can I get an inexpensive 128 gb solid state drive? Plz note I said 'inexpensive' and not 'cheap'

Also the new i5 units have a backlit keyboard, anyone if that will work on my unit if purchased?

Thanks

there is no such thing as inexpensive when you have the word air and ssd in the same sentence

macsales.com
only place that sells it..
SSD for MacBook Air 2010 or 2011 - OWC Mercury Pro Aura Express Sandforce Driven

you might be better off selling your unit and purchasing a new unit
with the options and features you need.

You can't get the backlit keyboard on the 2010 Core2 Models. Even if you had the part (Backlit topcase from a 2011 model) there's no connector on the 2010 motherboard to support the backlight.

But there's "cheaper" alternatives to the OWC drives. There's been a guy on Toronto craigslist posting (Disclaimer: I'm not him, and I don't know him) about 128GB drives for $200. No idea the quality or warranty, but if Price is the only concern...

disclaimer : I would not trust them/craiglist..
at least with OWC you get warranty and you get 30 day return plus you get a bigger drive, and much faster too

but to each his/her own buyer beware..
( last I heard craiglist is a dangerous place - listen to 680 NEWS )

Sell it and buy a new/used one with the features you need.

Note that the 2010 MBA doesn't use a standard drive format, you need the special stick style which limits your selection.

I wonder if you might be able to find somebody looking to upgrade from 128 Gb to one of the larger models from OWC and therefore willing to sell off a 128 GB model? Maybe post a "Wanted" ad and see what happens.

Also, if you do go the OWC route you could buy the external case ($35) and make use of your 64 gig stick. It doesn't reduce the cost, but it does give you something more to use.

BTW, if you are not familiar with them, OWC has good products and are good to deal with.

What about using a 64 GB USB stick if cost is an issue.
Sure, it's much slower, an external device, but those sticks can be bought now for less that $1.- per GB

Not an option - way too expensive and slow
