Improved GUI for MAIL?

Hi all,

I have Lion on one of my machines and I really dislike the interface. Dull grey colour, tiny icons.

Anyone else feel this way? Anybody feel apple could have done a better job in how they presented mail? At least give the user some colour options.

Am I a lone wolf on this one?

I'm not a fan either but I do like the layout more then the Leopard way. You can always use another email program if you like though.

it beats outlook for mac 2011 which is a nightmare in its self never mind the million and a half icons along the top...
so I will take the mail app any day and its lack luster.. but remember you can always go to right click on the toolbar and customize the bar..

BTW - MS and its cursed databases are still there

It's boring and buggy - - some good concepts poorly implemented. 10.7.5 might be worth another look

Mail in general is a pretty light weight e-mail program IMO. It is great for personal e-mail and relatively low volume but truth be told Outlook on a PC, especially in an enterprise environment with a heavy volume of e-mail is vastly more powerful and customizable than Mail. That being said it is also vastly more complex to set up due to the huge number of options.

Hate the grey, and the search functions could have been layed out much better. Too hard to find folders when they are all grey.

Looks like I am one of the few that like the new Mail look in Lion. Although it being grey, the UI is what counts for usefulness for me. Can't wait to upgrade...

I've been a mac user for 4 years now and here's what I've learned;
1-most software apple provides is somewhat limited in usability, sort of the controlled environment apple advocates.
2-if it doesn't meet your needs, use a third party program.
3-choice and customizability? What's that?!

Having said that, I kinda like the grey!! I was bummed when iCal changed the colors.

That is the odd part...iCal and AddressBook both got significant GUI changes and are bright vibrant apps'...mail is dull and lifeless in comparison.

It's pretty bland but I have to say that some of the new features (especially the search features) make it worthwhile for me, I need the functionality more than a cool look. Besides Apple will change it again at some point, so until then I will just not pay much attention to the bland bits.
