mini-Display port to HGMI cable?????

How long can the connection be between the mini-Display port and the HDMI connection on the screen? That is, what is the longest connection this will support? Where is the best place to look for the longest cable options?

TIA

EDIT: How is audio handled? Has anyone tried something like Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter

That will work.

The newest (and last generation) MacBook Pro's carry sound out along with video via the Mini DisplayPort, so that adapter would not be required in that case. Just straight Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter. (And then a regular HDMI cable from there.)

And, it's HDMI. *

This is for my wife's MBP17 bought last December. So it should need just the miniDisplayport to HDMI cable? Is a miniDisplayport to HDMI cable the best approach or should I go miniDisplayport adapter to HDMI/HDMI cable?

Sorry, audio via Mini DisplayPort is supported on 2010+ models only. Your MBP from last year (June Mid 2009 release) would not have this support. So, you would need the special adapter with the USB connection.

What is the difference between standard speed and so called high speed? Standard speed HDMI cables seem to come in longer lengths - 45ft+ (desirable for this project) on Monoprice v.15ft for 'high' speed?????

HDMI has different specifications depending on its specification number. The current iteration is 1.4. Here's a quote from Wikipedia about it. =)

Quote:
s of HDMI 1.4 specification, there are following cable types defined for HDMI in general:[63][64]
Standard HDMI Cable - up to 1080i and 720p
Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet
Automotive HDMI Cable
High Speed HDMI Cable - 1080p, 4K, 3D and Deep Color
High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet

Why not buy a "standard" cable?
FWIW, I purchased this 45 foot cable from Monoprice last year and have had no problems at all. I figured that I wasn't really pushing my luck with the length, given that it's also available in a 100ft. length.
