Tax software

For many years I have used Quicktax on my PC to keep the government in business. This year I finally switched to a Mac, on which I also run Win XP under Parallels. I suppose I can always continue to run Quicktax (now called Turbotax) on the Windows side, but I would like to eventually be 100% Mac. I would like to stay with QT / TT because I can carry over data from last year.

Does Quicktax / Turbotax have a Mac version? If not, what Mac software have you folks been using with good results?

Thanks for your help.

There is no Canadian version for the Mac, but for the past several years, I've done it all online using Intuit's website. Works great from Safari...

Ufile is excellent... been using the online version for about 5 years. Covers all the bases (ours are not your basic return) and pretty intuitive....

I was in your position about tax software a year ago. As mentioned, there's no Canadian tax preparation program for the Mac (unless something new has come along). I used QuickTax On-line last year. It was a different experience than the computer based software: it was hard to get summaries and preliminaries and the navigation was a bit clunky. In the end it worked out OK, but I would go to a software package if it were available.

Formerly known as GriffTax, it goes back to at least 1993.

I agree with Thom - UFile works very well. And our tax situation isn't that straightforward either.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to find out details about how it handles Quebec returns.

I used to use PC software, but last year I used the Canadian software Tax Freeway. Cutting edge Canadian tax software - TaxFreeway

But my tax returns are fairly basic.

+1 on Tax Freeway. I used it for 2009. It worked, did the joint filing for the two of us and allowed us to optimize deductions, and neither of us is in jail!
