Got my colour laser printer !

What a deal I got. We went into Staples in Guelph, ON to look at the printers and I talked to the clerk who was very helpful. I had wanted just a colour laser printer as I already have a fax and scanner. We looked at options and I didnt see anything that I wanted and then the guy said he had one of last year's models, still in the box, brand new. I asked how much, he said it's an HP, and it'd be $100 to $150. I said make it $100 and you got a deal!

He showed us the printer in the box, and it was an all in one! He off to check the price and came came back and said it's $100. and brand new, full warranty, with ink toners. I said - wrap it up, I'll take it!

I got it set up so easily on my Mac, the software installed and all was cool. The quality of the printing is wonderful. However, the scanner didnt work and I couldn't figure out why. I called HP tech support and a nice lady in Costa Rica (!) said I needed to uninstall the software and download the most recent one, and she walked me thru it all, she was kind and patient which was appreciated. It was easy enough to do but I was happy to have a nice tech support person. It now scans and does a great job, I am very happy with it and especially the price!

It's an HP LaserjetCM 1015 MFP.

Sounds like a good deal you got!

I would like to get a colour laser printer, but I thought they would be expensive. I have an HP LaserJet P1005, and it is great, I would like to have colour though. does anyone know how much tonor would be on these types of printers?

The 4 pack of toners for my new one are somewhere around $250 for all of them at Staples. I found them online for $198 for all in Toronto, incl. shipping. A place in the US has them for $152. plus $15. shipping. So that'd work out a bit cheaper given our strong dollar now, but I dont know if there's any hassle getting them over the border.

Here's the link to the Canadian store Printer Ink & Toner Cartridges Canada | 123InkCartridges.ca

I've been told that yes they are expensive but they last a really long time.

I've ordered toner from 123InkCartridges.ca and been very happy with it/them. Definitely a better deal than Staples!

What is the cost difference if you get your toner re-filled vs buying new toner?

Most placed will price match the online price with shipping. That way you don't have to wait for it.

Great deal!
I hope you bought their warranty package. Normally I don't suggest it, but because of the low price, the cost (I believe it's 10%) will mean you can simply return it in after 2 years for a replacement for $10.

I bought a multi-function Canon laser at Staples for $100....and did this myself.

Yeah I did get the warranty deal for an extra $10. The guy said if it dies in the second year I get a gift card for the full purchase price and I can buy another one or anything in the store for that value. So I think it was worth the $10.

So I guess I could take it back in 23 months and say it doesnt work right and get my gift card...

The clerk told me the average person gets maybe 3 yrs out of a laser printer, that they arent hust as sturdily built as old printers were. I've got an HP Deskjet that must be 8-9 yrs old and still works fine. Is this true about laser printers? I wont be a heavy user of my new one, I just wanted better quality.

Yeah you can take it back and simply say something is wrong with it. Since it's a replacement (vs. repair) warranty, they will credit you the cost of the printer.

A laser will last a while. But, it might be cheaper to get a new one instead of springing for a set of 4 toners. Granted $100 won't go very far towards a new machine unless you get a good deal again.

The odds of another deal like that are probably pretty slim! Tho I can hope

The clerk in Staples said he took back something electronic in the second yr. and got the credit and bought a new one. Seems like a good idea to me.
