Configuring IPFW firewall in OS X 10.5

It's my understanding that this firewall is, by default, deactivated while the socket-type firewall is, by default, active. True? If so, if I wanted to activate and configure this firewall from the command line is there a fairly good "how-to" guide on-line that gets this party started? I found one here:

http://www.ibiblio.org/macsupport/ipfw/

Maybe there's better?

Before I even get that far, how many here have activated this secondary firewall? Any advice? I understand there's software such as NoobProof that can act as a guide.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. Please re-direct if this subject has already been covered elsewhere. My search here failed to uncover anything.

Thanks.
