default change from ms office

I had office with nothing but troubles, I am locked out of it now after i got my refund but It is still my default for opening email links or word documents
how do I change this default for opening these?

Have you deleted Office from your Mac despite being locked out of it? If not, you might want to start there.

yeah I dragged all the icons into the trash then emptied trash

I searched for word but nothing came up after that, I must be missing something if the denial still comes up. Is there something specific I should search to erase?

Insufficient in the case of MS Office. You really ought to have figured out by now that with Microsoft, nothing is simple and straightforward.

On your MS Office install disk is a "Remove Office" option. Use it.

For email links:

1. Open Mail
2. Go into preferences ->general
3. Choose Mail as the default email reader

For Word documents:
1. Select (not double-click) a Word document.
2. With this selected, press cmd-i (get info)
3. The fifth "section" of this info starts with "Open With:"
4. Choose a different application (Pages, TextEdit, whatever you have that can open Word documents).
5. Press the "Change All" button.
