Something I've become used to seeing at this time of year are the predictions and arguments on what will be announced at the January MacWorlds - it's become almost a Christmas tradition. This year I'm even more interested as I am specifically waiting for the Conference's output to make a buy decision.
I've personally heard rumours of G5 Powerbooks and eMacs. I'm hoping for yet another bump up in iBook specs. What has everyone heard/think/know/guess? |

The flash iPod seems a cert - along with revs to the iPod mini to 5Gb (should **** off all those who've just bought 4 gig minis for the Hols).
Doubt we'll see a G5 powerbook but my guess is a speed bump and perhaps a dual core G4 at the top end. This would be a significant performance increase. Doubt the G5 desktops or iMac will be revved. Maybe a slight price drop or component upgrade (video card?). Methinks we'll also see something in the AirPort Express market. Maybe a network storage device that holds your media and streams it. But like it or not the hype and bluster will be iPod, iPod, iPod with Mac news focussing on Tiger features. |

Personally I see the following:
Tiger rehash. Possible release date announcement, I'm still thinking 1H 2005. iPod news, nothing new. And no iPod Flash. The iPod flash is not going to work. IMNSHO iLife updates? I don't think so, but possibility. I think those will come later. Keynote 2, unlikely. New QuickTime (I'm really hoping so). New eMac update as MWSF is consumer focused. And lots of third party updates, and nice heavy dose of RDF. I don't really see anything on the horizon for Apple, outside of mostly recap for now.

Isn't the iPod flash just about guaranteed to show up sometime next year? IOW, the rumour has been confirmed. Perhaps not announced at MWSF, so sometime soon.

I'm kinda hoping that for future reference Apple finally realizes that laptops require more than 256MB OF RAM AS A BASE!!!!

iPod flash will be 25% smaller than mini, hold 25% capacity of mini, and only cost $25 less than mini.

Sounds like reasonable specs... look at the price/size difference of the Mini vs. regular now and the Minis are still selling.
