I've had the Soundsticks and Sub Woofer for a few years now and they sound great, no complaints at all. I bought my son the JBL Creature Speakers last year for Christmas to use with his iBook and they also sound excellent. I would say that you couldn't go wrong with either one.
I've been using the Soundsticks for 4 years now (I have the original USB version), and I love 'em.
Great sound quality, though they don't get to go past 3 blips on the apple volume control very often...

I know there is already a speaker thread going but I am willing to spend a bit more for my speakers and I don't want to hijack someone else's conversation. I am looking at the JBL Creature IIs and the Harmon/Kardon Soundsticks. What do you folks think? If you have other suggestions within that price range I am listening. I went to the Apple Store in Ginza yesterday and listened to both but with the crowd and six bazillion soundsystems all running I couldn't get any clear indication as to which was best.
I use these Altec Lansing speakers and they sound amazing, you can pick up a set at CanadaSys for $86.00 a good price for these units I paid over $125.00 a year ago and tought I had a great deal.
Harmon Multimedia makes both the JBL and Harmon-Kardon computer speakers, you shouldn't notice large differences between the two brands.
Note that although they share the brand names, Harmon Multimedia is not part of either JBL or Harmon-Kardon, although all three (and a few dozen other audio firms) are owned by the same holding company, Harmon International.
I find them all to sound very similar when comparing like-priced versions of each; if you like one you probably would be happy with something from the other.
Cheers for the posts. Man I wish I could use a 5.1 system! The trouble is I live in Tokyo and we have a tiny apartment and the walls and floors are thin, thin, thin. I can hear everything going on in the place below me! So I cannot blow the place out, no matter how much I would like to drown out the whiny neighbour. I'll head back into the Apple Store (seem to be the only place that carries a lot of these in Tokyo) on Friday and take a closer listen.
