Returning Logic Studio Upgrade to Logic Express without a receipt

I was given an unopened box of Logic Studio 9 that a client of mine bought for me a few days ago.
( he made a mistake)
This was the upgrade version to earlier installs of Logic express or Big Box.

The problem is I cant tell the client I dont need it and want to return it.
I was offering it for sale on Craigslist for $200 instead of the $359 + Tax that was on the price ticket still on the box from Apple but everyone that contacted me did not read properly and thought i was sellling the program outright, not the upgrade.

In any event, I called Apple today to see if i could bring it back to them, not even for cash but would have willingly exchanged it for the Mac Box Set with 5 licenses that includes Snow Leopard, iWork + iLife.
But they wouldnt take it back without a receipt.

I can understand not taking it back for cash but why not an exchange?
Otherwise unless I find someone that needs the upgrade Logic Studio, its wasted on me.......

Anyone know of any other Mac stores here in TORONTO that would gladly exchange this for the Mac Box Set of Leopard +?
That way they can even resell it and make an extra $100 just for the exchange?

And the price tag on it can be very easily determined by Apple to be the latest version only a few days old

So any idea why they wont exchange it for even a lesser priced software and they still make extra money this way?

(im trying to go about it this way and use asking my client for the receipt as a very last resort or i feel i could possibly lose him as a client as he is a bit odd )

Hi SD-B, welcome to ehMac.ca!

Just to clarify your question, is the software you have still factory sealed or has it been opened?

Ahh... looking into it a little more, this is Part# MB799Z/A?

Unlikely that a store who didn't sell this to you would take it back. Not a very big seller / not much demand for the upgrade from Express.

Hmmm. If only you could find a cheap copy of express 7 but a quick look on amazon shows it sells for 200+.

An item only has value if it can be easily resold. It's worth zero if it sits on the shelf until it is outdated. That's what the dealers are thinking about.

As you have experienced yourself, it was impossible to sell for 40% off on Craigslist.

No I wouldnt say it has been impossible but it has been difficult if only for the main reason that many people i am finding DONT READ the ads properly.

Ive had 2 people who do need the upgrade and are just a bit short of money this week but willing to take it next----but i was hoping to get rid of it sooner, hence, returning it to Apple.
What i have found is that I have had about 20 people send me frantic emails, saying I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT..........and then you talk to them and again, although I had IT IS AN UPGRADE in huge letters.......LOL........they seem to over look that part time and time again.

I have no doubt it will sell to someone....but it could take a week or more......but I would have much preferred just returning it to Apple for an unopened box of the Mac Box Set containing Snow Leopard, iWork and iLife---and even allowed them to keep the $100 difference for that I would make use of, not this ;-)

But i see now that someone has said there isnt much of a call for the upgrade version although I cant see why for i have heard that it is phenominal and there must be people out there with just version 7 or 8 on their Macs............but if that is correct, no wonder they dont wish to take it back if they think it will sit there for long

If ayone here has happened to purchase this VERY same software in the past 12 days and has a receipt Id split the money with them so i could then pick up the Snow leopard one at no cost...... ( I can pay for it but if i can get it in exchange for this one I woud be much happier)

Post above this one states that I will get rid of it---and wy its been a problem so far, but that has more to do with people not reading posts correctly but i know someone will have to purchase it OR why would the company have brought it out at all?

Just a matter of finding the person who wishes to save over $200

BUT thanks to all of your answers, I certainly now see why Apple didnt wish to take it back LOL
