Macbook casing

I have an intel macbook 13in and have recenetly been noticing the casing starting the chip. Plastic slivers have been coming off the siding and it looks really bad. I was wondering if it is possible to buy a replacment casing or even buy a solid casing like the macbook pros. Will apple cover a new one for me?

Thanks

Yes, if you laptop is still under AppleCare coverage it will be replaced. I think I just replced 11 of them two weeks ago for one of our laptop programs. Take it into a Apple shop and they will have it done up for you. This is a defect.... rather design flaw with the MacBooks.

Still stop by an Apple authorized dealer. I have read the report on them and I'm uncertain if they will still cover it or not. I have not had to deal with one outside of warranty .... yet.

Wouldn't hurt to stop by or better yet, give AppleCare a call. When they get your SN# and they tell you it's out of warranty tell them that you have a potential out of warranty/extended coverage repair. I have done this with other items and they should at least be able to check this for you. Won't hurt to call.

Oh, and I see you new to the site.... welcome

The problem with cracked top cases is covered from 3 years of purchase regardless of whether or not the machine is under warranty or out of warranty.

Yes, Lars is correct. As soon as Lar mentioned it I remembered I read this online. So ya, drop it off to a Apple Shop and they will get you going with a new top case.

How long do you think I will have to wait? Do you think they will have it on site or have to order it?

They will order it which should be onsite with in a day or two. The install takes no time so you should only be without your laptop for a few days at most 4-5.
