Just bought the USA today, and they have a piece on how retail @ the Apple stores is working well. Much of it is servicing every day ppl, which is what I expect a store in GTA to do. Specialty custs will go to specialty accts in area.
Regardless, enjoy.
H!

Two things strike me from that article. The first is that there are two idiots quoted in the article. The first is the customer who paid a Genius to install more memory and was happy because it was done post-warranty. Helloooo!!! Any store would have done that for you and at a lower cost than what Apple soaked you for!!!
Second idiot is the "long-time" analyst who covers Apple. If you were such a long-time analyst you'd have had some idea by now about why people haven't switched in droves.
What's more relevant is the quote from Tom Santos...he says that he saw his sales DROP 50 percent with the introduction of an Apple store in his neck of the woods.
The exact quote from the artice, re: RAM installation:
Quote:
"He sold her additional memory and installed it at no extra charge, within 20 minutes, even though the computer was two years out of warranty."

Big deal...Notebook Depot on Dundas St. in downtown T.O. would have installed RAM into my used T20 (which I didn't buy from them and is certainly out of warranty after 4 years) for free if I'd bought my memory from them.
I was simply pointing out your mistaken read of the article -- and YOU making a mistake is certainly Big Deal™ Not uncommon; just requires being pointed out. Frankly, it's nice but not totally unusual to get free installation. the fact of this woman getting it fo free isn't a big deal, and wasn't even worth bringing up. But you did -- and you were incorrect in your reading the facts.

Actually, reading over my post made me realize that I made a mistake in what I wrote which Macaholic pointed out.
What I wanted to write was that she purchased the RAM and, then, was happy that it was installed by a Genius for free after the warranty period.
I did not make a mistake in reading the article but made a mistake in what I wrote. You could take what I've just wrote in this post with a dose of skepticism but I've never gone around dissembling nor do I intend to start now.

Not bad for a company that serves just 3% of the computing public.
Quote:
Has this figure dropper recently??
It boggles my mind how these guys don't get that 3% -- or, what they're figuring is Apple's quarterly marketshare is NOT the same % as the entire installed base of Apple users.... even the OS X using installed base! I haven't bought a Mac in four years, and yet i can certainly go out and buy an iPod -- and eagerly await destroying my credit card balance in the iTMS.
So, what is the guesstimated % of installed base -- OS X and Classic? 7-10%?
