MBA - Pops and clicks

I've got my rev b MBA plugged into some speakers... if there isn't any output for a bit (such as music, or whatever..), the sound goes into sleep or something, makes a pop/click noise and then there's a faint constant beep.. I can hear it ever so softly...

Then, when I adjust the volume or start a song or whatever, there's a POP through the speakers....

Does this happen to anyone else?? I'm finding the audio output to be pretty dirty so far...

EDIT: guess this is affecting the whole line of their notebooks.... and so far i don't see a fix anywhere...

Yes, its been happening to me too. It only occurs when I have external speakers connected and there is no audio playing. The sound card sleeps and creates a pop through the speakers, and then pops again when it wakes up. and the cycle repeats itself over and over. - very annoying. Apple seems to be ignoring the problem.

I did find a solution of sorts that has been working for me for about a year now. It's a program called KeepSoundAwake. It was originally created in 2002 for OS 10.1 and is no longer supported but it is still working OK with my MacBook running 10.5.5.

KeepSoundAwake sits in the background and plays a "silent sound" every 20 seconds, thereby preventing the audio hardware from sleeping.

I added it to my Login items and voila ... no more annoying pops!

Good Luck!

KeepSoundAwake for OS X 10.1
