This was probably just written as troll-bait for lots of links/comments on a CNET article, but still...
The comments below the "article" all say what I want to say to this. Apple is to blame 'cause Microsoft makes Entourage an inferior product to Outlook? Apple is to blame 'cause Google doesn't make Picasa for OS X? Apple's to blame 'cause RIM Doesn't make a good syncing application for Blackberries for OS X?
Riiiiiiight....

I don't think he is a complete idiot, but someone who tried to convert and is frustrated at what he thinks should be a simple task (like turning it on ). He sounds like someone who is a novice computer user, who doesn't read help files, or manuals, and doesn't look through settings so the application does what he wants it to do.
Does iPhoto really create its own copies? Or is it indexing new images found in watched folders? Maybe thats what he means.
When reading his comment:
Quote:
When my latest Thinkpad began to get unreasonably slow, as Windows laptops often do after a year or so of use
made me laugh, like the computer all of sudden lost power or something.
If I was starting from scratch and buying my first computer, or if neither I nor my wife worked for companies with entrenched non-Mac-friendly e-mail systems, I might be singing a different song.
Basically, it's just warning would-be switchers that the transition might not be as smooth as Apple marketing promises. Some things are different and take getting used to. There are compatibility issues. Etc. If more prospective switchers did some prior research and looked in to issues like the ones discussed in the article (and how to get around them) before buying, there would be fewer whiners complaining about how Macs suck because they aren't Windows PCs.
Read it again and note the anti-Windows, and pro-Mac comments. Also note that they aren't giving up on the Mac just yet.
Seriously, I think only a knee-jerk Apple fanboy would be offended by that article (and this sentence, for that matter).
Switching my wife to a Macbook has brought up similar issues. I think the article is somewhat true - I'm mean, I don't think my wife could've slugged it out without me setting things up - we're still using VMWare Fusion to run Quickbooks (blech!) because of deficientcies with the OSX version. I think it does take some technical savvy to figure things out or to even think of researching things online.
"It seems that every day one of us will find something on the Mac that doesn't work as it is supposed to."
Within the last year I made the switch to a Mac. If you have a closed mind, and an anally retentive attitude, I can guarantee that expecting a Mac to behave like a PC will end in disappointment.
There are some people that are not flexible enough to change in any situation, never mind working with computers, this fellow (and his wife) seems like one (or a matching pair) of them.
And I don't take umbridge with the fact that he's had a rocky transition to Mac, it's the fact that the article makes it sound like it's Apple fault that things like Entourage, Skype and Blackberry syncing don't work - when really it's the companies that make that software that should be chastised for making poor mac versions... Apple has nothing to do with it.

"See? Gay marriage, a single-payer health-care system, and moves toward decriminalizing pot won't cause the country to implode. They're doing all of that and more up in Canada, for Christ's sake, and the sky hasn't fallen."
I stand by my in-depth synopsis. We continually see this anti-Apple propaganda. If you work for CNet as a writer...gimme a break, you should have no problems making the switch.
Exactly as pointed out, they are trying to make comparisons to garbage. Apple does things better, let your mind forget the past when you jump on a Mac for the first time. Stop saying "That's not how you do it on windows"...

That's right; that's what I've told everybody I know who has or wants to switch to a Mac. Take it totally seperate; there's virtually no learning curve if you aren't constantly comparing it to Windows. This is why a lot of PC users I know are scared to switch, they just can't do this.
