They don't send you a serial. They send you an email with a link. You have to open the app and it will tell you your computer number. Copy that number, then click the link in the email. Paste it into the appropriate box on the website and it will generate a serial for you. No need for anything nefarious.
Ditto no email here either despite saying it would be emailed within 48 hours.
by the way did anyone bother looking in the MacHeist forum? I found this answer from JohnRed
