It may look like bad form to us, but if you were to look at it from a company perspective, it makes perfect sense. Here's this guy proving Apple's own benchmarks incorrect, on the company's very own computers, in the company's very own store - what did you think was going to happen? I bet just about any company would restrict his access to test in-store machines, not just Apple if the group was proving the company's own numbers false.
Makes perfect sense to me, and what happened here is just business sense. And in the end, Apple sent him a G5 iMac anyway, so who cares!

It squares with our experience as well - nice boxes well priced but no speed demons.
Dual G4s with good video cards still perform very well and the G4 iMacs are quickly becoming cult classics like the Cube as they are still quick and offer a different look.
Boutique computing eh

I suppose it depends what you mean by speed demon.
The Macworld tests are reasonably comprehensive, and in the iMovie and iTunes tests ( relevant to everyday use) the iMac G5 is a lot faster than the G4 iMac G5 Macworld tests

Yes. Other non-gaming tests at barefeats shows that the G5 iMac is a bit faster than the dual 1.45Ghz G5 Powermac. In particular, the 1.8GHz beats the dua; G4 in iMovie rendering (the 1.6 ties), beats it in Cinebench (dual G4 beats iMac 1.6), and they beat the dual G4 in Filemaker. of course, the GPU in the iMacs cannot tummy Motion very well.
All in all, I'm impressed that AT LEAST Apple's consumer computer is a bit faster than their previous gen's fastest pro model.
