Replacement HD for Summer 2007 iMac
HI,
My iMac was acting odd tonight with it taking a VERY long time to accept mouse clicks, etc. Something seemed to be keeping the machine busy, but I wasn't seeing much CPU or HD load. I ended up rebooting and find that my internal HD is not showing up. Selecting the boot device, viewing in the System Profiler and Disk Utility do not show an Internal HD.
I'm currently running off my SuperDuper backup (as it happens, my system was supposed to be doing a backup at the time this failure happened, but my most current one is only 1 day old). I also have a time machine backup available.
My machine is out of Apple warranty. I could claim a credit card extended warranty, but this is a good opportunity to increase the drive size.
Any recommendations out there for a replacement drive? I know I need SATA. I'm not sure if there are any temperature concerns that I should be worried about? I'm thinking of at least a 1 TB drive (replacing my 1/2 TB). If the price is reasonable, I'd go even bigger. Roughly it looks like a 1TB drive is $140 and a 1.5TB is $200. Looking at 7200RPM as well.
Thanks.
