I switched from a white MacBook to the new MacBook Pro (ordered it the day it was announced).
I love it. Simply love it. Not one thing about the new machine that I don't like. Even the screen is great - I can't get over how bright and vibrant it is. And yes, I've even worked on it outside. Is there a reflection? Yes, but to be honest, I don't notice it unless I try to notice it.
I am thrilled that I upgraded and every time I open it, I love it more.

I know that with my older PowerBook, the wireless reception wasn't as good due to the aluminum case. Has anyone switching from the MacBook to the newest MacBook or MBP noticed worse reception due to aluminum housing? This would be one concern of mine if it is the case.

I suppose one could use the MacBook as a pro machine by using a larger external monitor and doing away with that glossy 13" display.
My problem is, having to shell out another $34 to go from mini-DP to DVI.
And of course, no mini-DP to DP adapters out that I know of.
That said, I played with one the other day, and the build quality is absolutely second to none. Damn Apple...they make decisions so difficult when they take out stuff they should have left well enough alone (FW, matte displays).

I bought one last week, have used it all of two times, and now am thinking of dumping it, so if someone wants to save a few hundred bucks, let me know.
It's a great machine, but I bought on impulse thinking it would be a big leap from the existing MBP. It's not really.

Surprised no-one's caught this yet - but the new MBP is *heavier (.1 lbs) than the old MBP. 5.5 new vs. 5.4 lbs old.
The new MacBook (non-pro) are a 1/2 lb lighter than the white/black MacBooks that Preceded them. |

I was thinking the same thing.

Interesting... I noticed the exact same thing when switching from my iBook to my MacBook Pro. To this day, the iBook gets better reception, most noticeable over a distance, at all times.

You are right. The new MBP seemed light to me, but I did not have a previous model in my other hand, so my claim was based on something I read (and muddled up, apparently).

No FW, Nice move.
MBP, glossy screen, nope sorry, way to annoying in the real world. Kinda hard to control lighting at clients or on locations and even in studios most of the time. No matte option is just dense.
Used one for a few days and in general 'working' abilities and work flow I'm not noticing any real difference at all over my 2.4. I use it in a professional photography environment. While the trackpad is nifty, I find what Lenovo did way more useful, incorporating a Wacom digitizer into the case on their new 17" model. That's a great idea for sure, now if you could only load OS X on it, properly.
I think they'll get a lot of impulse buyers and upgraders and a fair number of them will be wondering why they did what they did... They do look nice though, but that screen, what a nightmare.

Everyone who whines about there being no matte options, you guys DO realise how spoiled you are, right?
I mean, good luck finding a matte Windows laptop ... I suggest you learn to look "past" any reflection like the rest of us have done, because as soon as Apple updates the 17" model there will be no such thing on the market as a non-glossy laptop.

Are you kidding me? Have you even looked? Unless your shopping experience involves going to Future Shop/Best Buy for your computers and electronics, there are a ton of matte options out there.
