My Mac Runs Just Fine, Thanks!
When looking over internet forums and documentation all you're ever really gonna find, and probably all you're really looking for at the time, is people bitching about some problem they're having an how can they fix it.
I've done it. So, probably, have you. It's what the internet is there for, really.
But I'm tired of how lop-sided it makes things look. If all you ever hear about is problems, you're gonna assume that things have problems more often than they do.
So then. I'd just like to say that my MacBook Pro? Runs jim dandy, thanks. Yes, I had one minor hardware issue with it (the cooling fans died in about month 2) but it was a simple fix and it's run without problems ever since. I haven't re-installed the OS (although I have upgraded from Tiger to Leopard) and I don't do any of what other people consider to be regular, required, routine maintenance (such as permissions repair). It's just over 2 years old now.
Previous to this machine I had a 12" PowerBook which I loved. Only one issue ever with the hardware, and it was also the cooling system. It was a quick fix and it ran without issues. In fact, it still does. I sold it to my dad when I got the MacBook Pro and he uses it to this day. It's now about 4 years old.
Previous to that I had an iBook which ran like a top until it was about 5, which for the record was about 2 years after I replaced it. It's only the HDD that failed too, so if I got off my lazy butt and replaced that part it'd work fine again. I was thinking of taking it apart and building it into an antique radio and setting it up as a music server.
Before that was an iMac G3 333 that ran for 2 or 3 years without incident. Even took it apart and put it back together again a few times for kicks. It's still running too. Sold it to a friend of a friend and they have it set up in their kitchen, apparently, as a music, email and recipe machine.
So yeah. Just trying to put a face to the other side of the story, those of us with machines that haven't had any major issues. Feel free to share stories if you got 'em.

Good idea for a thread.
My present day 20" iMac (Penryn 2.66 GHz) has never given any trouble at all. Zero, zilch.
My previous Mac, a 1 GHz eMac, never gave any trouble at all, despite being upgraded quite a bit for a Mac (HDD, DVD burner, Airport card, max RAM)
The G4 tower, beige G3 desktop, Power Mac 7500 and Quadra 605 that came before this were all bought used and extensively upgraded. They never gave any serious problems - I was able to deal easily myself with any problems that did happen.
The LC 475, LC III, LC II and Mac Classic that came before were all purchased new, and none of them gave any trouble.
In sum, I have had various Macs since 1990 and they have all been dead reliable - no bad experiences at all.

Macbook core duo had since January 2006. Ran it like a horse. About 8 hours daily. HD failed and some screen problems but it still runs fine for my sister who is University. I gave it to her.
Before that I had a clamshell that ran for about 5.5 years FOR ME! My mom has it beside her bed to check for her email and the sort.
I now have a 2.4 MBP that I am sure will last at least 4-5 years.
I have only ever had problems with iPod's from Apple. Those have been scarce and replaced quickly.
I think people assume Apple has god like quality. They assume too much when they buy a Mac. It is a mass produced item like everything else. There will be defects. With Apple you can go back to a Store and return or get the thing fixed. You don't have to phone random 1800 hotlines for them to tell you it was not their part's fault but the other part that a company from Hong Kong makes. So phone them.

In the last five years, I've owned a ton of different macs. With the exception of a rev. A iMac G5 that had a graphics issue and a MacBook that currently suffferes an ailing wireless connectivity problem, they've all been fantastic.

My iMac is working jim dandy. My two previous computers may not have been perfect (both had SuperDrives replaced and the one had 4 hard drives) but they've run perfectly otherwise.
Been happy with the quality myself. :-)

My macbook c2duo is running jim dandy as well. I've replaced the hard drive for a bigger one and upped the ram.
The only issue i've ever had was w/ the airport card and leopard seems to have fixed that. yay!

Bought the eMac back in 2002. It was a lemon from the get-go and Apple replaced it after 3 months. Since then absolutely no issues. I have done a couple of emergency OS re-installs from my back-up but the problems were self created and I was fully prepared and able to quickly get things up and running again. In one case a complete system reversion took less than 10 minutes.
