anyways, might be worth a peek.I think My mac dealer isn't there anymore, but there is the one out at West Ed?
Gosh, if this one succeeds and the one at West Ed is going like a house on fire, where does that leave Westworld, which is a pain to get to and a pain to park
plus they haven't ever upgraded their sign. Honest to Pete ! It still has the Farallon brand name on it, plus I think US Robotic. I've been a Mac-er for 20 years and..oopsy... I think I just dated myself...
Can someone say "not the only ballgame in town anymore?"
Sure. I knew you could.

I just thought I would fill everyone in here, Mac Centric has been around for a wile. MyMacDealer is still there on the south side, across from the BlockBuster right before White ave when on Gateway BLVD.
WestWorld is of course still kicking with there new reno'd store and they have updated all the signs around and on the building.
Yes the mother ship has opened a store in WEM and it is big and nice but I urge everyone to remember the other stores in town when buying, does not matter who you buy from but Apple has relied on these stores to keep them alive through the rough times and now they are trying to take everything direct, vote with your wallets people.
I've dealt with Westworld for the past 20 years and while I've had some good experiences, I've also had some I would rather forget.
I was at the Apple store in WEM yesterday when I took my son's two month old MacBook to an appointment at the Genius Bar. They diagnosed the HD had failed, replaced it on the spot, reinstalled Leopard and upgrades to 10.5.5 all in a couple of hours.
I can still see me standing at the service counter at Westworld while they asked me the same questions they have been asking me for 20 years, "because their system is down" or the "internet is off today".
They would then tell me there is a minimum diagnosis fee of one hour and I would remind the dizzy dame that it is on warranty. That would be followed by "leave it with us and we'll have a look and get back to you". When asked when that might be, the reply would be, "oh give us four or five days".
Do I want that kind of service? No thanks.
For the record, there were no appointments available for yesterday or today at the Genius Bar when I was there at 1:15 yesterday.
The store was packed and they were doing a booming business. They will continue to do so with the level of service they provide. Those independent Apple retailers would be wise to model their operations along the same lines. Either that or die.
Completely different experience with WW in Calgary. Back in 2003 when my eMac developed the RasterShift issue, they diagnosed it over the phone, ordered the parts and the computer was out of my hands for 1 day. Unfortunately this process repeated itself 3 times at which point they walked me through the hoops to get Apple to replace the lemon.
Interestingly WW was entirely aware of what a raster shift issue was but Apple's telephone support tried to claim they knew nothing about it.

Thanks, trevor, for filling me in... I didn't know that Mac centric had been around
I just thought it was Westworld, and maybe New World (for repairs) and that was it
Yeah, SINC, I've had a few interesting experiences, but overall Westworld has been okay, but....slow
My aunt in Calgary wanted to buy a Mac laptop and the sales staff there treated
like crap. Does she need that? no.
I'll be doing what you folks suggest and voting with my wallet (and my feet)
thanks
oo dang I live near the Southgate mall. I will go check this place out! I better expect some glass cases and high gloss or I will be very dissapointed.

I dropped by MMD on the south side looking for a TOSLINK adapter for my MBP on a Saturday. One guy was at the counter on the phone, another guy was in the back playing music, so he couldn't hear me yelling back there looking for some customer service. They didn't have any in stock.
I went to Westworld the same afternoon. The first CSR didn't know what I was referring to, I almost had to draw it out for her. The second CSR said that they had some, but couldn't find it on the shelves. He went to another guy, and they offered to get some in for me at a cool $25 each.
So I went to the Apple Store, one of the guys offered to sell me onw with a 2m optical cable for $20, but suggested I get just the adapter on ePay for $2.95. He even did the ePay search for me, did everything short of buying the item for me.
I didn't know about Mac Centric - thanks for bringing it to our attention. Perhaps I'll go there next.
I've ordered a 320G HD to replace my 160G HD on my MBP. Any recommendations on which store I should take it to for speedy, no-nonsense service to have it replaced?
