Contrary to popular opinion, bigger IS better. At least for most men when horsepower, or garage space, or supper plate size is concerned. I'm jumping up to an imac from this old G300 (finally). Looking at the new imacs in the store, the 24" screen seems BIG. Could big be too much in this case? This will be our uses: web surfing and emailing, simple word processing, storing tons of lossless music files, storing photos and watching slide shows. My 11 year old son votes for the 24". I expect he'll be playing some video games as well. For this type of domestic use, would I need/desire the larger screen? I'm not concerned about the difference in money, or the amount of desk space required. I kinda would like to get the bigger 24" imac because, well, it's big. I'm afraid though, I may find it too awkward to view when I get it home. Do you find the 24" overkill for our purpose?

Earlier this year my father purchased a 24". He had it for 1 week and returned it for a 20". It was really big.
I only have the older 17", but am considering upgrading to a 20".
My mother in law has the 20". It seems just right for everything.
You can NEVER have too big. Sometimes you just have to get used to the change, though. Going from a 19" CRT to a 30" Apple Cinema Display, i thought the 30" may be too large, the first few days I had it. After a couple of months I became used to it, and could never go to something smaller. I love playing UT2004 on a 30" monitor, and iTunes and mail have much more room on it. Oooh, and HD video looks great on it....
Same thing happened when I went from my 27" TV to a 51" Widescreen. First few weeks I thought I may have gone too large, now I could never watch a 27" and I'm dreaming of a 57" or 65".
We bought the 20" and have enjoyed it's size on our desk but as other have said you'll adjust to the 24" quickly and the quality of the display is better on the 24"
Like everyone said the 24" is the way to go, you get used to it fairly quickly, if you decide to go 20" you can always go dual monitor later, but the 24"(8bit) has superior color to the 20"(6bit).

If all other factors are (for you) equal, I side with the majority on this one: the 24" iMac is an awesome machine. Admittedly the 20" is a little more "personal" for some people. I don't think you could go wrong with either, quite frankly.
