Sharing a .mac family account with friends: feasible?

Does anybody do this? They don't seem to be providing five individual accounts, but accounts tied to one another . . . Does it make sense to get a few friends together to help defray the cost? The family pack can probably be had for marginally more than the individual version.

You can do this, though I'm sure it's against the license you agree to.

The only problem is that all five accounts are tied to the "master" account, so if that guy stops paying/lapses in any way, not only do all five lose access, they CANNOT EVER get back that address without the "master" ponying up again.

Something to think about.

I've seen this sort of thing before. One person goes out to eBay, gets a family pack and 4 others chip in the cost. That one person repeats the process once a year. In this case, the people originally were all living together at uni, but now are not. I'm told it works quite well.

That's likely the case, if the licence is anything like the one for the OS X family pack:

"A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household" we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium, but shall also extend to student members who are primary residents of that household but residing at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users."
