Can applecare warranty be applied after the original warranty runs out? If not would they take into consideration I have 3 other macs with applecare? Also when the three years of applecare runs out can I extend it again with applecare before it does? I am considering buying a macbook to replace an Ibook and I think the macbook might just be beyond the warranty period (no warranty) . Thanks.

If I buy a macbook with applecare warranty how do I transfer the ownership of the warranty? Sorry if this sounds dumb but I have a line on a macbook with some applecare left on it ( about 18 months). Thanks.

No can do. It's a logical limitation, because if they did allow the purchase of AppleCare after the 1yr period people would just wait for their computer to fail, purchase AppleCare since it's cheaper than most repairs, and fix their computer under their new warranty.

If it's a difference of a day or two, they may be lenient and activate it for you. You cannot extend AppleCare beyond 3 years from the original purchase date of the machine.

If you think you might be within the one year period, or close enough to get a grace period consideration, stop reading this thread and call Apple... 1 (800) 263-3394

I dealt with Apple sales persons on numerous occasion and found that one or two days would be fine if approached kindly, they tend to accommodate. With that said, I would go personally to a Apple store and speak to someone face to face.
If you have a long history of Applecare purchases, you might find that they will be willing to make an exception. Around 3 years ago, the unofficial rule of thumb was a one month grace period where exceptions could be made. Naturally, much of this depends on your approach - go in guns blazing, and no one will want to help you!
If possible, find out the serial number of the machine you are looking to extend, and contact any Apple authorized store to check the warranty on GSX. Note - the date on their system might not be 100% accurate - sometimes it is estimated based on shipping date to the store. So - check the receipt if possible. If there is a discrepancy in date, you can get them to re-adjust by sending a copy of the receipt.
