From the Ottawa Citizen, 2004/07/22:

Quote:
Out of the blue

When Kevin Britten bought a song from Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes Music Store recently, he got a surprise phone call from none other than Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs. The call came out of the blue early Monday morning about 20 minutes after Britten, a 20-year-old college student in Hays, Kan., logged on to his computer and bought about a dozen songs from iTunes. The call woke up Britten’s father, who then handed the phone to his son at around 12:45 a.m. with the words, “Steve Jobs is on the phone.” The younger Britten says he almost didn’t know what to think. “I thought it was a joke,” he says. It turns out that Britten’s purchase of the song Somersault by Zero Seven was the 100 millionth song download from iTunes. In commemoration, Apple had decided to give away a brand-new Powerbook laptop, a 40-gigabyte iPod digital music player and a gift certificate for an additional 10,000 free songs from iTunes. Jobs also wanted to call the lucky winner. The two chatted for a few minutes about computing and music, says Britten, who is a lifelong user of Apple’s Macintosh computers. At the end of the conversation, Jobs gave Britten his e-mail address and invited him to get in touch. Britten says he was flabbergasted by the call, and immediately rang his friends to tell them about the incident. “I didn’t know if I was more excited that I’d won, or that I’d got a call from Steve Jobs,” he says.
My points for discussion are:

1) If SJ were to call you, what questions would you ask him?

2) Would you have actually believed that it was SJ on the phone?

3) Of an account of 10,000 songs, what album would you download first?

-SJ.

i'd ask him if apple was going to get the imac right this time around.

headless and not outrageously priced.

i'd tell him to fire his ad agency (the one they use for the mac line) and tell him to run more tv spots.

if he hasn't hung up on me yet i'd also tell him he's doing a fantastic job at apple. just fix the advertising problem and the imac problem.

For once I think I agree with TMR - but I'd ask him why he's such a knob first.

As for the album, I dunno, I guess I'd just start at the top of the charts and work my way down (Skipping over the like of Britney Spears et al.)

Good point TMR--why would anyone buy anything from Jeff Goldblum?

I'd ask him how many black turtleneck he has in his wardrobe.

Well, after asking him to deliver my G5 that I'm waiting for right away, I'd probably ask for a tour of the campus too.
