I'm going to buy an iMac. 20" or 24". I don't want to buy the RAM customized direct from Apple because it is too expensive. It cost an additional $165 for 2GB of RAM! So I was planning to buy it from CanadaComputers.com or TigerDirect.ca. I want 3GB of RAM on my iMac (1GB preinstalled and 2GB I install and buy). So, I know how to install the RAM but I don't know which type of RAM because there are alot!
So my question is, can somebody post a link (from TigerDirect or CanadaComputers) about 2GB memory for the iMac.
Also, does the type of RAM matter if I get 20" or 24" or is it the same for both?
I couldn't find anything at Tiger Direct that would be compatible, so I just bought 2gb from CanadaRam.com for $74, got it next works great. Myself and almost everyone on this board will tell you the same about them. Don't take a chance with TD crap, if it don't work you're screwed, CR is guaranteed to work on your mac.

All of the Intel iMac's (20" or 24") take DDR2 667 PC2-5300 Notebook RAM...
DDR2 667 PC2-530 -- This is the "generic" notebook RAM section on CanadaComputers and features several 2GB simms...
Apple Memory -- CanadaComputers again, this is the dedicated "Apple" section, however, they don't feature any single simm 2GB solutions...

Just order from CanadaRam and move on... no worries.
I just bought 4 gig of ram for my iMac at OWC - Other World Computers for 95.99.
I checked the apple store and they are asking $1,100.00 for same thing!!!

I'll throw in another recommendation for CanadaRAM.com. They are a local business to us here in Victoria and I've been consistently impressed with their dedication to "get it right THE FIRST TIME" and speedy nationwide delivery. I'm not knocking any of the other vendors mentioned (except TD, they suck!) but the collective wisdom of VMUG and ehMac.ca can't be wrong: CanadaRAM is clearly one of the best places to buy RAM in Canada.

Well, CanadaRAM won't let you have your order shipped to any address except your home address. So they're out for me as I work all day but could easily receive a shipment at work.
I order from Other World Computng, and if you get Express shipping (not Ground) then you don't pay brokerage fees - just PST and GST.

Is there a Future Shop or a Best Buy near you, because they stock RAM to suit your needs and I know BB has it on sale at the moment!!

Umm, no that isn't 100% correct. We deliver to work addresses if the credit card holder sends us a fax authorizing shipment to a third party address.
