LCD Display + MacBook

Hey folks,

I have a MacBook and I've been thinking about purchasing a 20" Apple LCD, when I was at the apple store, I asked one of the sales people what resolution I would get from the display, he told me that it would run in the native resolution of the display (1680 x 1050 pixels) which is higher than that of the macbook (1280 x 800 pixels). Is this true?

Also would this also be the case with non-apple displays?

Yes. The screen will run at its native resolution. I have a 21.6" Samsung 216BW running off my macbook. It has its native resolution. I have a desktop/portable set up right now. Apple keyboard and wireless mighty mouse and the screen.
You can even have your screen on your laptop open and use the extra 13.3 inches to drag things over to if you want some more room.

So in total, with my screen open I have almost 35" of surface. Good set up.

...and I wouldn't get an Apple display. Over priced and outdated technology.

Dell.ca has more affordable 20" S-IPS screens.

Dell : DELL UltraSharp 2007FP 20.1'' LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand : Displays : Home & Home Office

Wait for a sale and get it for $399 or less.
