I have a choice of either a 28 inch or 24 inch LCD for a second display on an imac. They are both extremely good deals they are $299 and $529. How much more space am I gaining by going for the 28 inch. What would you chose? is it worth the extra $230 for the 28 inch LCD. Thank you.

No one can really is it worth it or not. Some people think it would be, and others will think otherwise.
Imo 24" inch is good enough. I went from a 17 inch to a 24 inch 3 years ago. I found the the 24 inch to be such a drastic change. This was when I got it 3 years ago. I got used to using thing after a while, but I still find it big, and I still find it has enough room for me to do everything on one screen. I also use my LCD to play my xbox 360 on. Its decent, but bigger would be nicer.
If I needed to buy a new LCD tomorrow. I wouldn't spend the extra $230 on the 28 inch, but that's because I really wouldn't need a bigger monitor. If you need/want the extra space, I say go for the 28 inch model. You'll probably be happier with it.
if you're getting the same resolution from a 24" (1900x1200, usually) go with that. I'm using 27" monitors at work and lose some sharpness compared with a 24 with the same resolution due to that.

This is exactly the point right here. It is not how much bigger the sceen is, it is how many pixels are there on either. As said above, most 24" are 1900x1200. Most 27" screens are the same so it's just larger pixels. If the 28" is also 1900x1200 then what are you really gaining? (other than a slightly blurry image???)
Z.
Model names/numbers would help here. If this is a 28" TV with VGA/DVI then it probably wont even be that high a res.
If your eyes are getting bad, getting a 28" would help. My dad has a 27" Samsung even though it's the same 1900x1200 res as the 24", the bigger pixels are really helping him out.
