printer driver problem
Can anyone explain why this may have happened and how to correct it. When I installed the samsung installer disk on the laptop it put on a ver. 1.1 which works with the airport express wireless system. When I used the same disk on the new Imac, it installed the ver. 2.0.1, and I keep getting a message that says the computer is having difficulty communicating with the printer and so I can't print from the Imac. When I hooked the printer directly to the imac I got no message and nothing happened. The samsung is on the printer list of the imac and is the default printer. I talked to apple and the gal there didn't know what to do and the samsung gal said to either upgrade the laptop so that the network had only 1 driver on it, but I was reluctant to do anything with the laptop, as it is working with the printer. The other option was to find a 1.1 driver on the web and downloead it but then the imac would have 2 drivers on it and the apple gal thought that would confuse the computer and may not solve the problem. Any ideas?

I hoped someone with more wireless experience would have helped you but here goes:
I have two Samsung drivers on this Mac and have no problems as you select the driver in prefs or using Printer Setup Utility. I don't know the difference. Open System Preferences and click on Print & Fax. But a check next to the driver you want to use. Or using Printer Setup Utility do the same thing, there is also a make default printer button. If you don't see your printer try adding it. On the add window there is a button called "More Printers" it will let you browse for connected printers. I don't have wireless so I can not give you the perfect answer as the options don't appear on my Mac. There is help available under the Help menu of Printer Setup Utility. |

Hi Malco. Thanks for your info. As it turns out, I was able to download the 1.1 version of the printer driver to my desk top and trash the 2.0 When I did that the printer connected and we were in business. Now the challenge seems to be that we cannot make the samsung print any darker than it does. The laser printer is much cleaner but less bold it seems than the inkjet. Do you know of any way to darken the laser print. Neither apple nor samsung could help me. Seems that the Tiger program doesn't have an option for that. Are you on Tiger or Leopard?

Laser printers should print close to what you see on the screen with a few exceptions. The bolder output from the inkjet is ink spread I'm guessing. That is generally bad but in this case is giving you the result you want.
Is it text your want bolder? Can you not change to a bolder typeface in the native file? If not you can open it in Illustrator and stroke the characters bolder. Tell me what app you used to make the page you are trying to print. What type of file is it now also? .doc, .pdf, .jpg, etc I'm still on Tiger as I do half my year's work in November and December and changes are not something I do then. If it is an image that is too light it could be a toner problem, a needs cleaning problem or a Color Sync problem. I've never used Color Sync but I'm sure it is not that. |

Thanks Malco, Hadn't thought of changing the font! By the way, re the voiceover, my husband just tried it with Word, and he can now type things and then highlight them and the computer will read out what he has highlighted. This works really well for him. The voice can be changed to male or female and the speed of speech can be adjusted. Thanks for the link. We haven't read it all yet but it seems to be a voiceover manual which is just what we were looking for.
I have also discovered that somehow I have disabled the Java script on my laptop. Do you have any idea how to enable it? I can't get some of the Safari pages because it is no longer enabled. Should I start a new thread? Thanks for any help. |

If it is just in Safari:
Go to Preferences under the menu named Safari Click on Security Make sure there is a check mark beside Java and Java Script. If that doesn't fix it it is way above my tech level. |

Paste in a link to a page that does not work for you here.
And yes start a new thread. I looked at Apple's Java support pages and as I said I'm not techie just a long time work related user. |
