Announced originally at Macworld Expo 2004, this card is going to kick some serious butt. 256 MB of graphics memory, and only works in the G5 (no biggy, no slower Mac could take advantage of it).
Thoughts? (sorry if this was posted before)

A nice piece of vaporware - ATI announced it way back in January (almost 5 months ago) and haven't announced a ship date yet. If it ever ships, it will be out-dated by the new Radeon X800.
It was an amazing card when it was announced, but it's become obsolete in the last month.

Yeah, but what about the Mac Edition of the card? The X800 most likely isn't going to hit the Mac side as fast as it does the PC side, therefore the 9800 SE isn't obsolete just yet.

From a retail point-of-view, you may be right, the retail version of the Radeon X800 may be a few months away. From an OEM point-of-view Apple has been aggressive in using whatever ATI has ready, ex. the Mobile Radeon 9700, and the OEM area is where ATI makes most of their money. I guess since I'm looking at buying a new G5 soon, I'm looking more at the OEM offerings. And again, ATI still hasn't announced a date for this Radeon 9800 Mac Special Edition, the card isn't even on their price list. So is it another month off, another two months?
New PowerMacs are rumored for WWDC, an OEM Radeon X800 could be offered by Apple as a BTO option on the new PowerMacs. Of course, that pure wishful thinking on my part...
Hmmm... this is strange, someone actually found OWC selling the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition - http://eshop.macsales.com/Item_XLR8Y...m=ATI100435057 - but ATI's site doesn't list it in their price list or online store. The card may actually be available! It's only a measly $379.99 US, which would be... approx. $520 CDN.
