Shutdown at xx:xx (Not a Leopard thread)!

Running 10.4 on my Mac Mini. I'd like to have the Mac shut down at a certain time automatically.

However - the managed account that would be using the Mac has all those options unavailable. I authenticate and run the Full Finder, go to System Prefs and the vast majority of the icons there are all greyed out. Is there another way for me to set this?

Thanks

While you are in the System Preferences, have you 'unlocked' the Pane by clicking on the lock in the bottom left corner?

Yeah I did look for that, but it doesn't exist when using a managed profile. Thanks though.

The computers administrator will have to do this. Best way is by writing a "Log-in Hook". We are getting a bit outside my area of expertise. If you want to pursue this; eMail me and I will give you what info I can dig up. Maybe someone else has more experience in this area.

Sure it does. In the Energy Saver pane, it's in the lower left corner.

See attached (I have the computer in a non-admin account).

Once you unlock it, you'll have access to the startup / shutdown times in Schedule.

GT, the OP isn't even in the Energy Saver preference - he's at the root of System Preferences and the Energy Saver icon is greyed out. The 'lock' is irrelevant.

Howard2k - under the Adminstrator account, select the 'managed' user and then go: Parental Controls > Ensure that 'Finder & System' is checked; click "Configure..." > Open all System Preferences should be checked.

Log back into the 'managed' user and then set the System Preferences as required in Energy Saver. Then, once this is done, you can revoke his/her ability to change it again by going back into the Adminstrator account and disabling the Open all System Preferences option for said 'managed' user - your settings, however, that you made under the 'managed' user account, will not change.
