iBook Harddrive Replacement

Hey people how are you doing? Just wanted to know where in the GTA they replace iBook harddrives. I will provide the harddrive. I was just wondering where I can get somebody to do it for me. Thanks for your time.

Any Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Carbon Computing, Computer Systems Centre, Digital Prototypes, North Star Computer, the list goes on. Find an AASP.

Thanks Lars. Is there anywhere I can get it done for cheap? I was offered about 60 dollars plus tax at Click on Mac Solutions. That was the cheapest quote I could find. Thanks again for the quick reply.

That's about as cheap as it will come from an AASP.

Yeah I will probably go to them. Any advice for upgrading my 12 inch iBook, 1.33 ghz laptop to Leopard next week? I am getting the harddrive upgraded from the 40 gb it has to a 120 gb Harddrive. Do you think I will need more than the 512 mb of ram that I already have? Thanks again for your help Lars.

Maximizing out the RAM to 1GB will go a long way, but isn't completely necessary. I say install Leopard when you do, then, if you aren't completely satisfied with its performance, then purchase and install additional RAM.

$60 to replace an iBook hard drive??? YOWZA - a bargain!!! I hope, for your sake, whomever performs the service is careful and knowledgeable. The iBook hard drive replacement is one of the most dreaded procedures. More often than not, an iBook never looks the same afterwards; keyboard "warped", top case askew, lid no longer closes neatly. Try to get some assurance the person(s) doing the job has/have experience with the process.

Heh.

That's a slightly paranoid fulfilled response. I don't think he/you has to worry about getting that kind of job done at Click On Macs. If you were having your "friend" who's "good with his hands" do that job for you, then I could see one being paranoid.

aji84, I'm interested in how your drive swap turns out.
I emailed two Apple service centers in Ottawa and have not even received a response with their quotes.

If you're happy with the service you get, I'll think about booking my machine wherever you got yours done, and bring my iBook and replacement drive on my next trip to Toronto.

Please keep us informed, thanks!

Hello

So I called up ClickOn Mac solutions again today about the harddrive replacement. They want 90 dollars plus tax to transfer all the files from my old harddrive to my new harddrive which also includes installation. If I were to by the harddrive from them they would only charge me 60 dollars plus tax for installation and transfering all my files from my old harddrive to my new harddrive.

I asked them how much it was for them to just install the harddrive without transfering all my files from my old harddrive to the new harddrive. They said that they would install and initialize the harddrive for me for 60 dollars plus tax. So thats what I plan on doing. I don't need the data on my old harddrive because I want to start out fresh with Leopard next week when it comes out. If anyone is interested in this place the website is:

http://www.clickonmacs.com/

I will let everyone know how it goes after I do it next week.
