Hard to say. Some dealers even sell RAM and claim it's "Mac RAM," which, of course, is a load of crap. PC dealers in general are just cheaper than Mac dealers are, so even their RAM is cheaper in most cases, along with most other cross-platform accessories.

My dealer matched Best Buy's price for a 512 stick for my iBook.
The reason Mac's are so expensive is because there's no competition - when someone makes an Apple "clone" then the prices will come down, because they will inevitably try to sell more for less, and Apple will be forced to cut their prices.

What is Mac Ram anyways? I thought it was all the same.

Which'll never happen, because Apple prohibites any clones of their machine using their operating system. There were clones back 10 years ago, before Apple shut 'em all down. They actually were putting Apple out of bussiness slowly but surely, and that's when Apple pulled the plug on them for their own sake.
And I wouldn't say there's no competition - PC's are the competition.

Silly silly RC51....
Mac RAM is ordinary RAM inside a Mac
Now go back to polishing your tricycle.
What is Mac Ram anyways? I thought it was all the same.
It is, that's the thing. Some users and even dealers will attempt to say otherwise, though. I know enough users who think the RAM that shipped with their Mac from the Apple Store was produced by Apple. There's no such thing as "Mac RAM," nor does Apple produce their own RAM.

I just wondered. There's a lot of talk about bringing macs down a little cheaper to compete with PCs, it seemed odd to me how ram is literally double the price. A gig of ram in my powerbook is 600 bucks. It's 300 at the PC shop. I had a downtown retailer tell me that regular PC100 ram would not work in my beige. But it did.
By "Apple Dealer" do you happen to mean "The Apple Store"? Because they overcharge for RAM. Other retailers I know do not, such as Simply Computing here in the GVA who when I needed more RAM for my 333 iMac (now sold) had the best price in town for two 128 MB chips.
If you are looking at local retailers, be sure to ask them if the RAM is retail or OEM priced, the difference is sometimes staggering.

local retailers. And the difference in price between OEM and retail at PC shops is not staggering. Apple charges even more for their ram. I'm not talking about that.
