wondering if someone can help me reset everything....clean it all off y'know?
it's gotten so slow, and i just want to start it from scratch again.
any quick way to do this? i'm sure there is..i'm just no mac wizard by any means.
There are various ways to do this, depending on what the real problem is. You may have a solution in mind that is not correct for the problem.
How fast is your iBook? How much RAM? How much free disk space? Which version of OS X?
If you are convinced that an OS reinstall will help, you can do it easily without compromising your data - just back up your files, email, etc. first! (SuperDuper is a great program for this).
Once all of your data is safe, find your OS X install discs, and then do an "Archive and Install". This will keep everything in place, but replace all the system files.
You'll need to do several visits to the Software Update program immediately afterward to get everything up-to-date.

......trying to find out how much memory..etc...i have..
Hey, i just got an ibook g3 and was looking at it, and there was a lock picture on the side (the same place where you can put the USBs and all) and i didn't know what it was, or even what to do about it. it looks like a whole inside the ibook itself.
if someone could please help me it'd be really nice because i'm not a mac wiz.
what does it do exactly? because i heard that some computers kind of lock up when droped and well, i'm a little clumsy. so i'd like to know if it's safe it i knock it down.
The hole on the side of your laptop with the lock icon is a place to connect a security cable, like a Kensington lock, which you wrap around a secure object to keep your laptop from being stolen if left unattended.
If you drop your laptop (never a good thing!), your iBook does NOT have the motion sensor which *temporarily* "locks" the hard drive head to prevent it from coming in contact with the disc platter, thus preventing damage. Only the MacBooks and MacBook pros (and, I think, one of the Powerbook models??) have the motion sensor.
