Angry Macbook External Monitor issues

So I get to the office early today and plunk my Macbook down on my desk and plug in the external Dell monitor as I have done every day since January. Nothing happens. The Macbook detects the display but no inage, not in mirroing or in clamshell mode.
The monitor gives me the "in power saver mode, please press any keyboard key or move the mouse"

Anyone with similiar problems?
Over on Macforums I found a few people experiencing this but as yet no solutions.

I thank you all in advance for any help.

Just tested it in analog mode using vga-mini dvi adaptor and it works fine.

I suppose it could be the DVI-Mini-DVI adaptor or the DVI cable itself.
