How does Bootcamp work; technically?

I am curious to know how exactly Bootcamp works at a technical level.

Does it simply emulate a BIOS, in order to boot winblows?

Does it run between the processor and os to translate requests sent to the prcessor? (Then again, this would mean it could have been used on PPC).

Anyone know?

That should give you answers to your questions.

You were right, in that the procedure emulates a BIOS to boot XP from. After that, there is no translation. Your Mac IS a PC.

Wouldn't it then be completely possible to run OS 10.4 on a PC with an emulated Mac BIOS?

hackint0sh

Not an advocation for this site, posted for informational purposes only. (I have enough Macs to worrk about, don't need to make a HackinTosh)

Seeing how Apple makes profit off hardware sales not operating system sales, they've understandably gone through lengths to block OS X from running on cheap PC hardware. It is illegal. Just like how Microsoft made it illegal to virtualize Vista Home Editions.
