Question PowerMac G4 vs. PowerMac G5

This is a rather sparse question but bear with me. I am in the market for a used, but not that used Mac. I have narrowed the search down to either the PowerMac G4 867DP or a PowerMac G5 1.6 or 1.8 single. I would like it mainly for audio editing and music composition. That being said, I don't want to limit myself to just that. In saying that, I'm not looking for a machine capable of world domination, etc. But rather a reliable medium of the range computer. If anyone has any suggestions or tips for me I would really appreciate the assistance.

Thank You,
Grant.

Get the 1.6 for your use. - no comparison. Careful with 1.8s.

Can be unstable - not for the faint of heart. Not one of Apple's most shining moments - a 2 year firmware snafu.

867 MDD nicknamed Windtunnel.

Like I posted previous, I have had no problems with my single 1.8 PCI-X. Quite snappy as well.

History indicates the entire 1st generation of G5s was disproportionately problematic; 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 suffered logic board issues along with some displaying power supply failures.

But buying one today is a fairly safe bet, as these issues were addressed under warranty repairs in their early stages.
