Web Based Software for Intranet

I am looking for some different software that runs web based to use on our corporate intranet, wondering if anybody can recommend anything.

Time Off/Vacation planning - Something so employees can request time off and we can approve or deny the request and see who is off at a glance.

Billing/Project Management - Looking for something that we can modify fields or create new fields as needed (Or something targeted towards the Film/TV Industry!)

Shared Calendars - I think I am just going to wait for the iCal Server in 10.5, but any good alternatives out there?

Web-based? FileMaker could be used to create a solution that would be able to handle all of those requirements.

However Daylite could also handle those requirements. It is client-server based and as long as all users are running on Macs, they are able to use an internet connection to come into the main server. They can also 'sync' and work offline, syncing back with the main database when necessary.

Unfortunatly, we do have PC users in the office as well, hence wanting a web based solution that everybody can access.

If I new how to deal with FileMaker and get it to do what I want, I totally would lol.

While Open Source has been thought of, we would like to get something that offers some sort of support. If the system goes down, and they don't have a 1-800 to call for assistance, the chances of getting it fixed in a timely matter are low.

Given I am looking for something that will be adapted to and used daily, once it is in full swing, if it goes down, it will cause chaos and I will need to get it back up ASAP.

Open Source may still be an option, but I am looking at retail right now to start with (As well as custom)

I don't think that you'll be able to find the 'solution' off the shelf. Without knowing all of the specifics, FileMaker sounds like it would be your best bet. While I am a FM developer, and therefore slightly biased, my suggestion would be to find someone who could develop the solution you need for you and rely on their organization for the needed support. It would be worth the investment. It sounds like this is going to be counted on as a mission critical application. Therefore you would be wise to make the proper investment in it.

FileMaker also allows you to go one of three ways. Develop a network solution that uses the FileMaker clients (both Mac and Windows), develop a web based solution, or develop a solution that can be accessed either way.

I did think about SalesForce.com, but that is a subscription solution and more sales oriented.

Hope this helps,

37signals does some of this (at least project management). It's web based and using ruby. I never used it myself, so it's just an FYI...

Simple software to help you get organized: 37signals

I am in the process of doing that as well. I have gotten a quote to get something built in WebObjects and MySQL for us, but I am up for looking at other options as well.

As you are a developer for FM, expect an email from me to get a rough estimate on what you would think it would cost us to do what we want (If possible with FM).

ThanX
