DVD Slideshows

I'm a relatively new mac user, and was wondering if I wanted to make a big slideshow with music (just from a bunch of jpgs) how would I go about that?

I'd want to play it on a dvd player later as a normal movie so it's easily compatible.

Thanks!

The easiest way is probably Boinx FotoMagico. It will make a good simple slideshow and can export it to iDVD for burning. Alternately, you could us a movie program like FCP or iMovie. They are not as easy to use as FotoMagico for your purpose.

If you have iLife, then all iLife apps integrate beautifully to create exactly what you want.

--Import your jpegs into iPhoto
--create a slideshow in iPhoto
--create a play list in iTunes with the music you want to use
--add the play list to your slide show in iPhoto
--export finished slideshow from iPhoto into iDVD
--customize the iDVD project
--burn

For each step there is a slight learning curve, but overall it could be done in a few hours depending on the overall complexity of the project or your personal expectations.

If you have iDVD on your machine, you can build basic slideshows in it too. They would be a basic photo to photo (with a slick transition, or not) show, not the pan-and-zoom type that PhotoMagico, iMovie, or Photo to Movie could give you.

iDVD gives you slide duration, transition, and a spot to drag in some audio for the whole show. The nice thing about that is that once you are already in iDVD, you are in a good position to burn your final DVD.

Would you be able to sync the music at certain times with the pictures? i.e. start a certain song at a certain time in the slideshow or would it just play in order through the whole thing.

They would just play back to back.

To get more sophisticated using what you already have, you could use iMovie to create the slide show by importing the still images and then adding and editing the sound tracks to your liking.

Once done, export your movie to an iDVD project for completion.

You can also use Keynote and export it as aQuicktime movie.
