Airport Xtreme (n) and express

Finally got my hands on that sweet Extreme last week end and i have to say that i am really happy with it, BUT here are some maybe a newbie question(s)

I use to be on a WDS mode with my old extreme (cone) and my Xbox 360 was pluged on it and also had my Lexmark laser printer on a network. Since i had my new Extreme? well my express no longer in service as i can't find a way to do a WDS or shared network or relay the signal from extreme to my express.

Is there a way to relay my signal to my express from my new Extreme? without making any conflict with my new settings? as i love my new speed.

Supposed to be possible. Check out page 39 on this doc.

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Des...1nNetworks.pdf

I just ordered a new Exterme and have a Express that I want to do WDS too. Hopefully it will work fine when I get it in a couple weeks.

BTW, There was an update for the Extreme released today.

I'm assuming there's a selection for which protocols you want to allow your Extreme to broadcast.

Quote:
Wireless protocols
802.11a/b/g
Draft 802.11n2
On the Airport Express, in Admin Utility there's an option to choose "Wireless Mode" on the main Airport Tab, there's "802.11b/g Compatible" or "B or G Only." It's the far bottom left.

This is likely the only setting you'll have to switch. Once you turn on the G compatibility, the express should be able to connect and rebroadcast the G protocol.. but, not the N.

I'm unsure of how the new Extreme station shows up in Airport Admin Utility, but it's likely close to the same.

In order to set up the new Airport extreme AND Express with your Airport Express you MUST use the new Airport Utility, which you install from the disc provided with the Airport Extreme.

My recommendation is to do a hard-reset of both, use the guide, and set everything up.

Other had difficulty as well, as documented on the Apple forums, so you're not alone.

Just wanted to pipe in and say that you guys are great! Always going out of your way to help other mac users! Especially you Vex! Everytime I turn around, you're helping out someone!

I'll be getting one of these new extremes when I get my hands on a new iMac for my office or a Mac Mini for my living room. Glad to know there's already a thread to help make sure the Xbox 360 works with it!

Cheers!

Well thank for the tip and all, but i also d/led the PDF file about the configuration for designing a network. as previously mentioned, it wasn't easy to set up, but my main question is to relay my info to my express.

The new Extreme require to be set up with the utility disk that comes with it, so your old Airport administrator, won't work with your new toy. Now i even wonder if the old one could "Express" could be set with the old airport admin to relay the signal.

as i through the document and i can't see the express for a wds nor relaying the signal.

I am doing this set up for my Xbox 360 and printer Sharing as my new Extreme is Downstairs and all my goodies are upstairs, so if i could have my Express back online in order to do a wireless print and d/l my updates for the xbox? it will be fantastic.
I am pretty sure that some people that have the new toy might have the same type of problem., here is a picture of the new airport admin.

Connect to the Airport Extreme but you don't change it to WDS. You connect to the Airport Express and change it, and then it will act as a bridge.

Try the "Airport Admin Utility" to connect to the Express.

Well i have some bad news concerning the new 802.11N and the Express airports on a WDS mode.

I have tried for a long time to make it work and found out that the 2 together will not communicate.

WDS setting won't work, so it is a good thing that i kept my old 802.11 a,b,g bridged on my new 802.11n and wds it with my airport Xpress. All this to get my Xbox 360 online.

Well after paying a visit to the microsoft site to get a wireless adapter,as i didn't like the price of it "almost $200.00"? i decided to keep my old airports and do a WDS mode only and my new 802.11n is where my mac surfing with.

Here is also a link for the 802.11N network design
PS: it is a big file to load, expect delays.
