Best mp3 for 10 year old??

Ok, I must be quick since b-day is tomorrow!
What is the best portable music player for someone who owns a mac (I never owned the small device so I have no idea what to reach for when I am gazing up at the store shelf options). The requirements? Drag and play from i-tunes (is that possible?) AAA batteries, about $100, am/fm. I don't want an i-pod. Too expensive, internal battery, another $$ for fm, and a target for bullies (it is for my 10 year old son). I really like sandisk products but they don't say mac on the labels. RCA Lycra does happen to mention mac os 10, but I haven't heard anything good/bad about this product. I really don't know anything about how to change files from i-tunes to mp3 so I was hoping I could drag'm into the device.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreaciated.

Why do you want AAA batteries? And radio - most don't bother after a while 'cause of the ads. iPod is still your best bet.

My 8 year old has a Nano. No bully issues - but then she is a karate kid!

The iPod Shuffle is less than $100 and is definitely the easiest Mac-able mp3 player... Your kid won't thank you for any lesser player. The AAA batteries would be a relentless pain in the @$$... If you are worried about bullies, get a plain vanilla (say Sony) headset - theives look for the characteristic iPod earbuds.

Most mp3 players will show up on iTunes but really what's wrong with an iPod Shuffle?

We camp, I really don't want all of the peripherals associated with recharging when out and about. He can recharge AAA ones or get regular ones in a pinch. The radio is just a convenient option.

nano or a Shuffle.

Shuffles are great i had my brothers out the other day and enjoyed it. Just didnt like the fact that the music is random unless you memorize the playlist.

Shuffle. Get a Apple refurb from their online store. The new Shuffle is only $69 and the old is $59. I think they qualify for free shipping and carry the same warranty as new. I bought several times from their refurb store and they honestly look and perform like brand new units. The only issue is that you may not get it by tomorrow...

Just get a cheapo USB charger and an inverter that plugs into the lighter (er, power) socket in the vehicle...

A target for bullies?

mp3 players don't belong at school, or on the playground, so where would this happen? If a 10 year old child is socializing, or at school, they would not be using an mp3 player, right?

Old version ipod shuffle. The battery life would outlast even a long camping trip. It has amazing sound (better than my 30g ipod video). It is cheap. It is indestructable, save being put through the washer. My 11 year old got one for xmas last year. He graduated to a nano this year. The old shuffle was just great. I still use it for workouts. And noone will want to steal it.
